Common Adoption Questions
We do take adoptable surrended animals if space is available at the shelter. An appointment must be arranged for a mandatory medical and behavioural assessment to be completed. There is a fee to surrender an animal to HSGN depending on the type of animal and its history. Please be advised that you may be placed on a waiting list if space is not available when you contact us.
You will need:
- To provide a piece of photo identification with a current address, (a utility or lease agreement if you have recently moved)
- Consent from all adults living in the home via email or text
- A clear understanding who will be the primary care giver
- Dogs must leave the HSGN with a collar & leash (provided by the adopter)
- Cats, birds & small animals must leave in a carrier (provided by the adopter)
All healthy, adoptable animals are kept at the shelter for as long as it takes to find them new homes. For some animals, this can mean living at HSGN for several weeks or longer until the right home becomes available. No animal is ever euthanized due to lack of space or because they have been here too long.
