Foster

Provide temporary homes for cats, dogs,
and small animals on their path to adoption

Many animals arrive at HSGN requiring extra attention and care, whether they’re recovering from illness or simply need time to heal and grow before finding their forever homes. Fostering provides these animals with a safe and nurturing environment where they can receive the one-on-one support they need to develop.

Opening your home to foster not only benefits the animals in your care but also unlocks more space at the shelter, allowing us to help even more animals in need. Every fostered animal represents a life saved and brings us one step closer to our goal of ensuring that every animal in the Niagara Region finds a loving home. Join us in making a difference and become a foster today.

Queens and Kittens Fostering

Whether you’re passionate about caring for cats or kittens, our Queens and Kittens fostering program offers plenty of opportunities to make a difference.

Operating year-round with increased activity in spring, summer, and fall, we are always seeking fosters to join us in providing essential care. Options include fostering bottle-fed kittens, cats and their litter, or older kittens in need of socialization. Your compassionate care helps these feline families transition to their future forever homes!

Dog Fostering

Sometimes dogs arrive at the shelter with medical needs or behavioural concerns– that’s where our Dog Fostering Program comes in. Designed to provide temporary care and support, this program is essential for canines requiring specialized attention.

For this fostering program, we ask that applicants live in the area, as dogs will require frequent clinic visits and ongoing intervention with our behaviourist and trainer.

Small Animal Fostering

Many of our small animals find the shelter environment stressful. That’s why our Small Animal fostering program is dedicated to offering specialized at-home care for critters like rabbits and guinea pigs.

By supplying foster volunteers with cages and food, we create a comfortable and nurturing environment outside the shelter where these animals can receive the customized care they need to thrive.
